Dundee Stout Dark and Drinkable

Solid bottle lable. That pretty much sums up the beer.

21st Amendment Back in Black

Excellent dark beer. Reminds me of a guiness and a Porter combined. A delight for any beer connoisseurs tastebuds. So far, have not been disappointed by any 21st Amendment. Drank at Mad Mex in State College PA.

Mom Hefeweizen by Rogue

Lighter hefeweizen. Same taste with a lighter consistency. I'm more of a fan of heavier beers, but not bad. Def not worth $5.50. Drank at Mad Mex in State College PA.

A School of Dogfish

Ok, I've been away for a while, but school is back in session, a school of Dogfish that is. I recently toured the Dogfish Head Brewery down in Milton Delaware, and brought back with me a mighty nice school of beer. Here's what's on the beer batter platter for tonight:
Raison D'etre
Sah'tea
Wrath of Pecant Brown Ale
Santo Palo Marron Malt
My Antonia Pilsner
Shelter Pale Ale
Midas Touch
Theobroma

So, might as well start at the top and work our way down to the bottom feeders. Sitting at #1, Wrath of Pecant Brown Ale.



This was a new experience for me, being my first smoked beer. This beer is a smoked malt that is brewed with pecan wood, giving it a delicious smokey nuttie flavor. It's only sold in a 750mL bottle which makes it a nice sipping drink for two. Don't you dare put this bottle in the fridge though. This 6.3% ABV beer is best served at room temp, helping bring out the rich smokey flavor. Unfortunately, they they only sell this beer at the Dogfish Head Brewery and at they're restaurant, BUT for those of you in State College, a little birdie told me today that Zeno's puts a special order in to get those rare bottles of liquid gold shipped up here. If you're interested, head to Zeno's and ask to be put on the call list for when they're ready to order.

Coming in at #2, Raison D'Etre



A very appropriate name for this beer, "raison d'être" in french means "reason for being", just as drinking good beer is my "reason for being". Have a bottle of this and you'll understand. I'm praying that they carry this beer at Wegman's. This will definitely be my new casual drinking beer if it's sold in the area. This is a mahogany Belgian brown ale brewed with sugar, raisons, and Belgian yeast. This is the only fruity beer I will ever like.

#3 Palo Santo Marron Malt



All I can say is "Wow!" Coming in at 12% ABV this was the strongest beer of the selection. When I started to pour this brew I thought I picked up a used bottle of motor oil at first. This beer is so dark and so thick I had to scoop what was left in the bottle out with a spoon. This beer also has a smokey wood flavor from being aged in the largest wooden brewing vessel (made of Palo Santo wood) built in America. Going to a party? Don't think about bringing this beer along unless you like chugging a liquid that has the same density as jello.

#4 Sah'tea



This is any alcoholic hippies dream! I've never been a big fan of tea, so how could you possibly make it better...? Add alcohol of course! Throw in some juniper berries, some black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper and BAM you get Sah'Tea. Very smooth and easy on the taste buds. You start with the soft taste of tea and then the 9.0% ABV kicks in with a mild hoppy aftertaste, just to remind you that it's still beer. That 750mL bottle went down quick.

#5 My Antonia Pilsner



Hmmm, how to describe this beer... Imagine taking a handful of hops, shoving them in your mouth, and sucking on them until your cheeks hurt. That pretty much sums up this beer. Hops, hops, and more hops. This so called "pilsner" taste more like an IPA than most IPA's. It's a strong hoppy taste, but it's not overwhelming. It's a good beer, but easy on the hops in the next batch please.


Ok, enough with the good beer already, let's get to the beer no one wants to drink. On to the bottom feeders.

#6 Shelter Pale Ale



Nothing special about this beer. It's your everyday typical pale ale, smooth, light, and if you enjoy drinking water, you might just like this brew.

#7 Midas Touch



If Dogfish made a beer that tasted like Miller Lite, oh wait, they do, it's called Midas Touch. A beer crappy enough to put in a beer pong cup that 15 different people drank out of. The only good thing about this beer is that it's 9.0% ABV so it'll get ya fucked up quick.

Last and certainly least #8 Theobroma



I'd give a review on this, but it's 4 days later and I'm still trying to figure out what it tastes like. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just beer.

A 4th Fest Bender

Here's the 4th Fest rundown...

Started off with a beer I didn't get to try while in San Fran. BIG MISTAKE! Def hitting this brewery up if I'm ever there again. I'm proud to present to you the finest beer I've ever drank from a can, 21st Amendment Brewery's Brew Free of Die IPA.



I'm not a big fan of IPA's, but this 7.0% ABV golden brew is a treat for anybody's taste buds. I recommend this brew to any beer connoisseur.

Next in line, Southern Tier IPA.



Did I say I'm not a fan of IPA's? I'm eating my words. I first had this beer at a brew fest a couple months ago. Big fan, never heard of Southern Tier before then. That led me to try Phin & Matt's which I would say is my favorite of their beers. I'd place IPA at a close 2nd. I'm looking forward to trying 2XIPA. Hopefully Wegman's carries it. I'm so happy they now sell beer, they're the next best thing since Walmart. (Yes I know, it was hot and sunny this weekend, so my neck is a little red)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to have a full bottle of this next beer, just a VERY large sip :-) screw you Nate! Rope Swing Pilsner by Red Hook



This was the first Red Hook beer I've tried. What did I think? Let's just say I'll be heading to Wegmans soon to pick up some more...

The last of the bottled beer for the evening, before drinking shitty beer from a keg commenced... Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier



Nothing terribly special about this beer. Def my favorite of Sam Adams fruity beers. Not a beer I'd choose for a night filled with drinking, unless maybe I was a chick.

Belgian BBQ

4 new beers for the weekend. BBQ with some Europeans, and they always bring good beer to the table. 1st stop, Wegmans to pick up a 4-pack of 3 Philosophers by Ommegang. $15 for the 4. Quite expensive for 4 beers you may think, but it only takes 4 of this 9.8% ABV beer to kick your ass. Next to Mad Elf, def a new favorite. A very thick beer, but doesn't have an overpowering hoppy taste.



Unfortunately, while I was enjoying the 1st two 3 Philosophers, some tardy physicist interns showed up to the party and helped themselves to the remaining 2 while I was distracted. I was quite angry at first, but if it weren't for them, I wouldn't have 3 other beers to share with you. P.S. I am still pissed!

Next beer on the docket:



This Belgian Pale Ale weighs in at 6.6% ABV. Not the best pale ale I've had, but it was very smooth. Makes for a very nice relaxing beer. My anger is residing. Obviously I'm starting to get drunk...

3 beers down, 2 to go...



Another one of my favorites. I first had Summer Bright Ale out in CO 2 years ago. Excellent beer. Can't believe I forgot about it, and SOOOO happy that Wegmans sells it. Looks like I'll be making another trip there very soon.

Last of the new beers, Whirlwind Belgian Ale by Victory.



Def not a favorite. It doesn't help that the beer was warm when I drank it. The only reason it went down as easy as it did was because I was drunk. This beer won't be getting close to my pallet again any time in the near future.

Warm Blue Moon = Skunk in a bottle

Came to the realization tonight that when Blue Moon gets warm, it tastes like the stink that comes out of a skunks behind. That led me to drink faster and more of them. Quite drunk off the 5.4% alcohol beer. Great night. Would probably pay $3 for a Blue Moon.
